Hallmarking Act - Dealer's Notice
The jewellery that Catherine Marche creates complies fully with the Hallmarking Act 1973..
This means that all our Catherine Marche pieces above the legal weight threshold is independently assayed, tested and stamped with recognised UK hallmark, and my artisan's mark, guaranteeing the material is what we say it is.
It is important to look for the hallmark when you are purchasing jewellery, as it is your assurance that you are getting what you pay for. For more information on hallmarking and the Hallmarking Act, click here
What is a Hallmark ?
A hallmark:
- Is a set of component marks applied to articles of the precious metals gold, silver, platinum or palladium.
- Means that the article has been independently tested.
- Guarantees that it conforms to all legal standards of purity (fineness).
- Guarantees provenance by telling us where the piece was hallmarked, what the article is made from, and who sent the article for hallmarking.
The Full Traditional Hallmark comprises five marks:
- Sponsor's mark - basically my own special unique maker's mark
- Traditional fineness mark
- Millesimal fineness mark - compulsory, for example 18ct gold will have 750 and sterlig silver is 925
- Assay Office mark - compulsory : for exemplle : London Assay Office
- Date letter mark
